About this title's co-creator
Kathleene “Kathy” Baker considers herself a "writer by accident" with a passion for all animals, especially canines.
Having never considered writing, after the loss of a special dog—Josey—Kathy sat down and penned a few words hoping to alleviate the pain. The few friends she allowed to read the piece insisted she "do" something with it.
Reluctantly, Kathy submitted the piece to Petwarmers and it was published that very evening. Her inbox sounded like a popcorn machine, as well over 150 emails hit one after another. Tears streamed for hours as she wrote thank you notes.
Days passed, Kathy began to heal, and another passion developed: writing as often as possible about dogs.
Kathy has been published in numerous Chicken Soup for the Soul books, newspapers, anthologies and various other publications. On a regular basis, she writes a weekly column entitled Heart of Texas for the Michigan magazine Frank Talk; is a contributor to a monthly Australian magazine Good Gabble; and also pens articles for a quarterly travel magazine Southern Tour. She has also edited several books by fellow writers and many on-line newsletters.
Kathy volunteers working with, and promoting, dog rescue organizations whenever possible and is thrilled each time any dog is given a second or third chance at life. In her view, dogs only want to please their humans, so when things go awry, usually the owner is simply uneducated. And, God help anyone Kathy discovers mistreating an animal of any kind! Confrontations have occurred with no thought to her safety when emotions surface quicker than her mind reasons. She’s the first to admit she’s not
always smart!
Kathy was raised a country girl in Kansas and that’s where her heart remains, although she now resides among throngs of people and horrendous traffic in the Dallas metroplex. She shares her life with husband Jerry and three delightful fur babies: Hank, Samantha and Abby.
